The works on canvas and board in Flora Mirificus are the outcomes of an investigation into notions of environmentalism and perspective viewed through an urban lens. Following an encounter with a Landcare group in East Gippsland, Zac shot numerous photographs of native Victorian flowers and foliage. These images provided a base for all the work and were a response to the group’s work as custodians of the environment and also to the complexity of the flowers and how they endure. Through various processes, the images are shattered, fragmented and reconstructed into arrangements of geometric forms that spill over as well as strike a pose of flux, transition and states of suspended space.
